Business and MBA master's degrees are standard requirements for many positions available in modern companies. If you are interested in obtaining a job in the business world, it is almost essential that you hold an MBA these days. Particularly if you are interested in a management position, you need to pursue an MBA. It is possible to specialize in many different areas within the MBA, such as accounting, management, finance, operations, project management, economics, international business, marketing, entrepreneurship and more.
Prior to pursuing your MBA, you need to complete an undergraduate degree. This could be a bachelor's degree in business or in any other field. You also have to take either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), depending upon the requirements of the school you wish to attend. Most colleges and universities offer MBA degrees, so you need to decide which ones you want to attend and apply to them. In addition to your score on the GMAT or GRE tests, admissions to MBA programs are based on your work experience, academic transcripts, essays, references or letters of recommendation and personal interviews.
If you attend a standard, full-time MBA program, it takes about two years for completion. However, there are a number of variations in MBA programs. If you know from the start that you want to pursue an MBA, some institutions offer accelerated MBA programs. This is a five-year program for undergraduate students in which the courses taken in the fourth year count toward both the bachelor's and the master's degrees. It is also possible to work toward your MBA on a part-time basis, taking one or two classes per semester. This allows you to continue working at your job while you are working on obtaining your MBA. A number of institutions also offer the ability to obtain an MBA via distance learning. This can take the form of online instruction, mail order classes and televised classes and can be done on a part-time or full-time basis. Your personal circumstances dictate which option is most suitable for you.
