Healthcare is a field that always seems to have a shortage of trained personnel. Because of this, a person who obtains a healthcare degree with an emphasis in medical and dental should have no trouble finding a job. There are many careers from which to choose in this field. Some require minimal education, while others require advanced degrees.
In the field of dentistry, a number of career paths are open to people who attend a community college or a vocational school. Dental hygienist, dental technician and dental assistant are some of the careers that require only a certificate or an associate's degree. For people who are interested in becoming a dentist, more extensive education is required. They must obtain a bachelor's degree, preferably in a science-related field such as biology. Then, they must attend dental school for four more years. Further, a dental school graduate may want to specialize in a particular discipline, such as orthodontics, oral surgery, pediatric dentistry or periodontics. To become certified in these areas, additional schooling is required. Obviously, hands-on experience is necessary for a person in any dentistry-related job. Although students can take some classes online, they will have to take many classes in person.
People interested in careers in medicine have many options from which to choose. Many of these pay very well, and only require a certificate or an associate's degree. Some these include licensed practical nurse, radiologic technician, respiratory technician, ultrasonographer, medical assistant and x-ray technician. Other careers are available to those with a four-year degree. They include registered nurse, dietician and clinical laboratory technician. Those who are interested in becoming doctors, physician's assistants and nurse practitioners must also obtain a bachelor's degree, preferably in a science-related field. Then, they must obtain advanced degrees. An aspiring medical doctor must complete medical school, while aspiring nurse practitioners and physician's assistants must obtain a master's or doctorate degree. Some of this coursework may be taken online, but hands-on experience and laboratory work is required for some classes, making it impossible for one to take these classes online. Regardless of the medical career path one chooses, a healthcare degree with an emphasis in medical and dental will allow a person to earn a good salary while helping others.
